Google Maps – offline version. Make sure to download the Google Maps app and also download the map in an offline version. Depending on where you go on your US motorhome roadtrip you will probably drive in areas without network once in a while. In these situations the offline version will be your best friend. For example we did not have any internet for 3 days while exploring the Grand Canyon National Park.
KOA might be one of our favorite apps for US RV roadtrips for finding campgrounds. KOA Campgrounds has a huge network of campgrounds throughout the US and when choosing these places to stay, our experience has always been that you can except a certain standard as KOA campgrounds offer consistency in service, amenities, comfort and technology – which is not always the case for many other, smaller campgrounds. As an example you will always have a friendly staff member nearby to support you when you choose KOA. Their app and interactive map gives you easy access to choose between more than 5000 locations across the states and you can book your stay directly in there or find contact information.
National Park Service is a wonderful app when exploring the more than 420+ nationalparks in the US. Think of it as your pocket-sized park ranger, ready to guide you through America’s wonders. In this app you will find interactive maps, tours of parks places, on-the-ground accessibility information and more. The app is made made staff working in the national parks meaning people who know what they are talking about, and also the information is up to date! The best thing is that you are able to download content from the entire parks for offline use which is very handy out there!
GasBuddy. For every RV USA journey, fuel is your trusty steed. GasBuddy is a great app that scouts out the most wallet-friendly gas stations near you, so you can extend your journey without shrinking your budget.
The Dyrt helps you to find campgrounds and campsites. It provides you with all contact information, reviews, photos and more. All of this is free, but if you upgrade to the Pro edition you will also be able to download specific areas to search from, create campgrounds list for your own trip and once in a while find some discounts.
Spotify, Apple Music and Podcast app. What is a roadtrip without music? Make sure to have your favorite playlist and podcasts right by your hand through music apps like Spotify, Apple Music and your podcast app on iPhone. This will kill the longest hours on road.
Rest Areas – USA is a great app when on the road to have a little rest. It is free to download and will give you a list of facilities for rest ares near you such as Picnic Tables, Restrooms, RV dump, pet walking areas and so forth.
Roadtrippers suggest routes, gauge your fuel expenses, and introduce you to off-the-beaten-path attractions. It’s the ultimate co-pilot! It allows you to enter your starting point of your route and your end location and b that gives you ideas for great stops and attractions along the way.
Campendium is a great help for finding overnight camping spots. You can see photos and reviews from prior campers beside from more other cool features. What we also like very much about this app is that it tells you how the cell phone coverage is on the camp spot, which for us who work remote, is very nice to know.
Beside from these very helpful apps, we have made a list of what you need to pack for the ultimate US RV trip. Go pack that bag!
