2. The Viking Rune Stone, Jelling
The Viking Rune Stones in Jelling are Denmark’s most significant Viking Age monuments and are often referred to as “Denmark’s birth certificate.” The story says that they were erected by King Gorm the Old (Gorm den Gamle) in the 10th century to honor his wife, Thyra – later by their son, King Harald Blåtand in memory of his parents and to proclaim his Christianization of the Danes.
