29. The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen

Another one of the very famous landmarks of Denmark is the statue of The Little Mermaid. And to be honest; no visit to Denmark is complete without saying hello to Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, the country’s most famous sculpture, gazing wistfully out to sea. The bronze statue is placed at Langelinie Pier in Copenhagen and back in time, the sculpture was a gift from a Danish brewer called Carl Jacobsen to the city of Copenhagen inspired by the fairytale from Danish Hans Christian Andersen.

28. Nyhavn, Copenhagen

In the heart of Copenhagen you find the historic, colorful waterfront called Nyhavn. It is probably one of the most famous landsmarks in Denmark due to its history and the picturesque buildings. Once a busy commercial port, today it’s the perfect spot to soak in the atmosphere of Copenhagen over a cup of to-go coffee and a Danish pastry from a nearby bakery. Even though they are very touristy and not the cheapest in town at all, you also find plenty of classic, danish restaurants at Nyhavn, serving the danish speciality Smørrebrød; rye bread loaded with many different kinds of fillings. You have to try this when in Denmark (we recommend the classics with eggs and shrimps or the one with fillet of fish). Another thing we recommend to do when at Nyhavn is to join a canal sightseeing excursion with departure from Nyhavn.

27. The Old Town, Aarhus

Step back in time in the Old Town of Aarhus, an open-air museum which brings Danish history to life through its very well-preserved historic buildings and cobblestone streets. Personally, this is one of our favorites. We visit every Christmas season, where the real museum bakery from back in time is serving real patries from the old days in Denmark, live-musicians are playing and bonfires are warming up the snowcovereds streets. It is a great tourist attractions for families with kids, but also for those without kids. Produce your own sweets, explore the exhibitions feauturing everything from old craftsmanship, posters and toys.

26. Grenen, Skagen

Another one of our favorite natural landmarks to put on your danish bucket list is Grenen located in Skagen. Grenen is the northern most point of Denmarks and a really stunning natural phenomenon. Not only is the walk along the beach to the very tip of Grenen wonderful, but what is speciel about this place is that right here, the two oceans Skagerak and Kattegat meet (Baltic and North Sea). This creates a very unique view, when the waves are meeting. In general Skagen is one of our favorite places in Denmark and is such a charming little fisher town. Famous for its unique light that has inspired famous artists for centuries, Skagen is a blend of beautiful beaches and natural phenomenons, art and history. In the summer and especially during week 29 Skagen is very popular for both danish and foreginers and lots is happening in the village during this season. At the same time you should be aware that Skagen is much more “dead” in the winter season – but in our opinion Grenen and Skagen is always worth a visit.. Have a look at the upcoming events right here. Btw we produced a short travel video from Skagen some years ago, which you can see down below to get more inspiration about why Skagen should one of the places to visit when in Denmark.

Even though it may not be your main attraction when in Denmark, Rubjerg Knude Fyr is a wonderful landmark for naturelovers. Especially during the summer season. Located near Liken Rubjerg Knude Fye was once build as a lighthouse for the ships in the Northern Sea. Due to a lot of sand drift during the years the lighthouse got set out of order as the ships couldn not see it. Today it is still beautifully located near the coastline and offer a great view to The North Sea, Vesterhavet. Kids and childly souls will definetely have fun in this big sandpit.
